New Fiat 500 Coming Soon in Indian Market

Fiat India is ready to re-launch Fiat 500 in the Indian market. It intends to re-introduce the model to compete strongly with Volkswagen Beetle that has been quite a successful small car in the premium segment. Presently, Volkswagen Beetle still has an upper hand for all those wanting to experience super-luxury and yet want the convenience of driving a small car in the Indian urban driving conditions.

So fat Fiat India has sold only 65 units of Fiat 500 in the country since it was first launched in 2008. On the other hand, Volkswagen Beetle has already sold over 300 units even though it was launched in November 2009. “Retro cars with distinctive looks are a big hit and that’s what we would capture in our new campaign to be rolled out in a few months,” said Fiat spokesperson.

The new Fiat 500 will come in new variants and will have option of customisation as well. Currently, Fiat 500 costs around Rs. 14.82 lakh as compared to Volksagen Beetle priced at Rs. 20.45 lakh. Fiat has not revealed the new prices or detailed specifications of the new model coming to India.

Hyundai to launch Hyundai Santa Fe in October 2010

Hyundai Motors India Limited is gearing up to introduce new models in the Indian car market. One of them will be one of the eagerly awaited SUV model Santa Fe which will be launched in October 2010. “Santa Fe may be launched in the month of October and its price can be in the range of Rs 20 lakh to Rs 22 lakh which will be very competitive,” said Y K Koo, Senior Director, HMIL.
SUV segment in India is growing everyday but there are very few strong contenders. Honda CRV comes with a hefty price tag and Toyota has temporarily halted bookings for Fortuner. Chevrolet Captiva and Ford Endeavour are the ones that are extremely popular with their diesel engines. Hyundai India plans to price the Santa Fe Crossover at about INR 20-22 Lakhs. With such a price tag, it is debatable whether Hyundai Santa Fe can be called as “extremely competitive”.

Hyundai has already attempted to enter in the SUV segment with its models like Tucson and Terracan in India but has not been successful. Hyundai Santa Fe will be its third attempt and will have to do things in the right way to make it happen.
